  1.  Die Gurkha - eine von vielen nepalesischen Ethnien. Bekannt wurden sie als Soldaten im Dienste Großbritanniens. Während manche ihren Ursprung auf Rajputen als Vorfahren zurückführen, ist die Benennung inzwischen auch auf Bevölkerungsteile tibetischer und birmanischer Herkunft übergegangen. Nach ihnen benannt ist Gorkha, ein Fürstentum bzw. heutiger Distrikt in Zentralnepal.
